The Toubkal (Jebel Toubkal) is composed of Jurassic and Cretaceous formations. The ascent of Toubkal with sounds highlight of 4167 meters, the highest in the whole of North Africa. This summit is visible from the nearby mountains. Our trek to Toubkal, leads to the discovery of lunar landscapes, through tiny villages clinging to the hillside, lined with walnut trees, apple, terraced fields, where only passes possible to pass from a valley or one village to another.

Toubkal, the highest peak of the High Atlas and North Africa at 4167 meters, is located 63 km south of Marrakech. In Berber, the “Toubkal” is called “Adrar n’Dern”.

At its peak, Mount Toubkal has many “Cairn” (artificial heap of stones) originally built by the Berbers who consider Toubkal as a shrine dedicated to Sidi Chamarouch, a marabout whose tomb is located near the white rock in the village that bears his name in 2310 m step towards Neltner and Toubkal refuge, a place of worship frequented mainly by Berber women and whose entry is forbidden to non-Muslims.

2 days mount toubkal ascent trekking itinerary:

Day One: Marrakech-Imlil – refuge (Base camp)
In the early morning, short transfer to Imlil where we find a mule. We begin our hike on a beautiful climb to the village of Aremd, terrace cultivation, irrigation canals, then by marabout Sidi Chemharouch to reach the refuge of Toubkal at 3100m. 5 hours of walking. Night in a refuge.

Day Two: Toubkal Refuge (base camp) – Toubkal peak – Imlil
Climbing the highest peak in North Africa is without major difficulties. Start at the earliest to enjoy the freshness of the morning. Where the summit of Toubkal (4176m) the view goes further, we can see the massive Siroua and the plain of Marrakech. Downhill and back. Tea and lunch at the shelter, after returning to Imlil 1750m, then back to Marrakech. Duration: 4 hours of walking / 1:20 drive.
